STEPS Public Art

Mural celebrating a Toronto neighbourhood

New developments in Toronto are required by law to include public art in their construction hoarding when they create a new building. STEPS Public Art and Devron Developments commissioned me to create a temporary mural for a new residential building located on Yonge Street in the Lawrence Park South area. They wanted an artwork that would pay homage to the neighbourhood, conveying maturity, warmth, and layered community.

  • First, I undertook in-depth research about the architectural history of the area. This included multiple exploratory visits where I documented buildings in different historical styles as well as the local Alexander Muir park. I then designed and illustrated a 117-foot mural. It included local architectural elements, people walking on Yonge Street as well as trees and greenery from local parks. The style was a minimal and elegant. The palette featured green and salmon tones complementing the new building’s green and gold brand palette.
